There is something so dreamy about a beach maternity session, even on a windy evening. As an LBI maternity photographer, I always tell couples to trust the process. Sometimes the most beautiful sessions happen during imperfect weather. That was exactly the case for Lannah’s session in Ship Bottom on Long Beach Island, New Jersey.
The evening was cold, windy, and heavily overcast. However, Lannah and her husband handled everything perfectly. They embraced every gust of wind and every chilly moment. Because of that, we created some truly stunning images together.
Lannah looked absolutely beautiful during her maternity session. Her soft gowns moved perfectly in the ocean breeze. Meanwhile, the neutral beach tones created such a romantic and timeless look. The dunes in Ship Bottom added amazing texture to the background. Additionally, the soft skies helped create that light and airy style I love so much.
Ship Bottom is one of my favorite beach locations for maternity sessions. As an LBI maternity photographer, I love how versatile this area feels. The dunes, open shoreline, and soft sand photograph beautifully during every season.
Even though the weather felt unpredictable, the beach still gave us incredible lighting. Overcast skies actually work wonderfully for portraits. They create soft tones and flattering skin colors. Because of that, Lannah’s images feel warm and romantic despite the cold weather.
I also loved how connected these two were during their session. They laughed through the wind and stayed close together the entire evening. Those little moments always create the best photographs. Instead of focusing on perfect poses, we focused on movement and connection.
The wind also helped add so much emotion to these images. Lannah’s hair and dresses moved naturally the entire session. As an LBI maternity photographer, I always encourage clients to embrace weather instead of fighting it. Sometimes those unexpected elements create the strongest images.
One of my favorite parts of this session was the outfit variety. Lannah wore two completely different looks, and both photographed beautifully. Her lace gown created a soft, editorial vibe in the dunes. Then, her pink fitted dress added a classic beach maternity feel near the shoreline.
The ultrasound photos and tiny baby shoes also added such a personal touch. Those detail images always help tell the full story. They remind parents how exciting this season truly feels.
As an LBI maternity photographer, I love documenting this stage before life changes forever. Pregnancy can feel exhausting and emotional sometimes. However, these sessions help couples slow down and celebrate together.
Even with the cold weather, this session felt incredibly cozy and romantic. The soft pastel skies paired perfectly with the neutral outfits. Meanwhile, the windy conditions added movement and life to every image.
Lannah absolutely glowed during her session. You could truly feel the excitement between them both. Sessions like this remind me why I love beach maternity photography so much.
