Capturing this session as a long beach island photographer was such a joy from start to finish. This extra large extended family session brought together multiple generations, which always creates meaningful images. Even more impressive, can you believe this family of 45 was captured in under 30 minutes! Every year, this incredible family travels together for a summer vacation. We met in Beach Haven on Long Beach Island, which created the perfect backdrop. You can view more family photographer sessions on my portfolio, too!
First, we started with the full group portraits on the dunes. Although large groups can feel overwhelming, this family made it effortless. Everyone flowed into position quickly, and the connection between them was undeniable. As a Long Beach Island photographer, I guide posing naturally, so no one feels stiff or uncomfortable.
Then, we broke into smaller family groupings. This is where the magic really happens. Parents relaxed, grandparents beamed with pride, and siblings laughed together. Meanwhile, the soft beach light wrapped around everyone beautifully. Because of that, each image feels warm, airy, and timeless.
Next, we focused on the cousins, which was easily one of my favorite parts. The kids brought so much energy, and their personalities truly shined. At first, we captured classic smiling portraits. Then, we let them run, play, and simply be kids. As a result, those candid moments became some of the most treasured images.
Additionally, we made sure to capture each individual family unit. This ensures that every family walks away with portraits that feel personal and complete. As a Long Beach Island photographer, I always prioritize variety so your gallery feels full and intentional.
After that, we transitioned closer to the shoreline. The movement of the water added a beautiful, dynamic element. Dresses flowed, kids splashed, and laughter filled the air. Because of this, the session felt less like a photoshoot and more like a shared family experience.
Of course, we also captured those quiet, in-between moments. A mother holding her baby near the waves. A grandmother smiling at her grandchildren. These are the images that often mean the most.
If you are considering a session like this, I highly recommend checking out this family session on LBI!
Finally, we ended with relaxed walking shots along the water. By this point, everyone felt completely comfortable, which always shows in the photos. As a Long Beach Island photographer, these final moments are often my favorite because they feel so genuine.
Overall, this session was filled with love, laughter, and connection. Extended family sessions may be large, however they are always worth it. They freeze time in a way that nothing else can.
If you are dreaming of your own extended family session, working with a Long Beach Island photographer ensures a seamless and memorable experience from beginning to end.
