One question parents always ask is how to prepare for newborn photos at home. Thankfully, I make the process very easy and stress-free. I treat every in-home newborn session exactly like a studio session. Because of that, I bring everything needed for baby’s photos. Parents can simply relax and enjoy the experience.
For every session, I pack my newborn posing table, wraps, swaddles, blankets, outfits, and props. Additionally, I bring a heater and sound machine to keep baby cozy and sleepy. Therefore, families never need to worry about gathering newborn items themselves. I truly want parents focusing on their new baby instead of stressing over details.
Many families are surprised by how simple it feels once I arrive. Since I bring professional lighting, I also do not rely on natural light. That means we can create beautiful images almost anywhere inside the home. Even better, gloomy weather never affects the session.
When parents ask how to prepare for newborn photos, I always recommend decluttering first. Usually, we photograph family images inside the nursery. Because of that, removing distractions makes a huge difference. I suggest putting away diaper bins, feeding pillows, pump carts, diaper caddies, and extra cords. Although these items are useful daily, they can pull attention away from your baby during photos.
I also recommend tidying nightstands, dressers, and visible shelves before I arrive. However, your home does not need to look perfect. New parents already have enough responsibilities. The goal is simply creating a clean and calming environment for your newborn portraits.
Another important tip when you prepare for newborn photos involves pets. I absolutely love including pets in family portraits. They are part of the family too. However, I prefer pets stay away from the posing table during baby’s solo images. Therefore, I recommend keeping them in another room temporarily while I photograph newborn poses safely.
Once we move into family photos, pets are welcome to join us again. In fact, some of my favorite images include dogs gently snuggling beside the nursery crib. Those moments always feel personal and meaningful.
For most in-home sessions, I set up the posing table inside the living room. Typically, that area provides the most open space. Since I bring my own lighting equipment, window placement does not matter. This setup also allows me to move efficiently between newborn poses and family portraits.
Families often overthink how to prepare for newborn photos, but the process truly stays simple. I bring the studio experience directly into your home. Because of that, parents receive beautiful posed newborn portraits without leaving the house.
In-home newborn photography combines comfort with professional results. Your baby stays in a familiar environment, while I handle the hard work. Most importantly, you can soak in those fleeting newborn moments without added stress.
