There is something so special about watching families grow through every season of life. This Smithville Village Family session felt especially meaningful to me. I first photographed Val and Jason during their engagement session. Then, I captured their wedding day, maternity photos, and newborn session. Now, I had the honor of documenting their sweet little girl’s first birthday milestone.
Honestly, sessions like this are why I love photography so much.
We met at Smithville Village in Smithville, New Jersey. It is easily one of my favorite locations for family photos. The lighting there is always dreamy. Additionally, every corner offers charming old-town vibes. The colorful carousel, brick walkways, wooden bridges, and cozy storefronts create endless variety.
This Smithville Village Family session started at the carousel. Their daughter absolutely loved it. She smiled the entire time and looked adorable in her floral dress. Meanwhile, Val and Jason kept things playful and relaxed. That always helps little ones stay happy during sessions.

A Smithville Village Family session offers so many beautiful backdrops without needing multiple locations. That makes sessions easier for families, especially with toddlers. We can walk a short distance and create completely different looks.

The village also has gorgeous golden light during the evening hours. Because of that, skin tones look warm and soft. The lighting paired perfectly with Val’s beautiful orange dress and their daughter’s floral outfit.
One of my favorite moments happened while they walked together on the brick path. Their daughter proudly held both of their hands while practicing her little steps. Those candid moments always become the most treasured memories later.
Additionally, Smithville has a small train that rides around during weekends. Families love it there because children stay entertained the entire session. It feels more like a family outing than a photoshoot.

Watching Val and Jason become parents has been incredibly special. Their daughter is surrounded by so much love. You can feel it instantly while spending time with them.
