This ship bottom maternity session completely proved that imperfect weather can still create beautiful images. Kayla and her husband absolutely embraced the cold, windy evening. Because of that, we captured some seriously dreamy moments on the beach.
Ship Bottom, New Jersey always gives such soft and peaceful coastal vibes. However, this session felt extra magical. The skies stayed overcast the entire evening. Meanwhile, the wind kept flowing through Kayla’s dress perfectly. Instead of fighting the weather, we leaned into it. Honestly, that created some of my favorite maternity images ever.
Kayla wore the most beautiful neutral dress for her ship bottom maternity session. The soft fabric moved beautifully with the ocean breeze. Additionally, the creamy tones matched the beach perfectly. I always recommend neutral colors for beach sessions because they keep the focus on emotion and connection.
Although it was freezing for May, you would never know from these photos. Kayla and her husband stayed relaxed and playful the entire session. They laughed together constantly, which made every image feel natural. Their connection truly carried this session from beginning to end.
A windy beach session may sound stressful at first. However, movement actually brings maternity galleries to life. During this ship bottom maternity session, the wind added softness and motion to every image. The dress flowed beautifully while the dunes created the perfect backdrop.
Long Beach Island beaches photograph so differently during overcast evenings. The muted sky tones create a creamy and timeless look. Additionally, the softer lighting flatters skin tones beautifully. Bright sunsets are gorgeous too, but cloudy evenings create such emotional imagery.
One of my favorite parts of this session was their adorable dog. He proudly wore a “big brother” bandana during photos. Including pets always makes sessions feel more personal and meaningful. Plus, he completely stole the show for a few minutes.
We also spent time capturing individual portraits of Kayla alone. Those quieter moments always matter during a maternity session. Pregnancy changes so quickly, and these memories deserve documenting. Because of that, I always encourage expecting moms to take solo portraits too.
This ship bottom maternity session also reminded me that weather does not need to be perfect. Sometimes cloudy skies and strong wind create the best storytelling images. You simply have to trust the process and embrace the moment.
Ship Bottom remains one of my favorite Long Beach Island locations for maternity photos. The dunes are beautiful, the beaches stay spacious, and the scenery feels peaceful. Additionally, the neutral tones photograph perfectly year-round.
For beach maternity sessions, I usually recommend flowy dresses and simple styling. Neutral creams, tans, and soft whites always photograph beautifully here. During this ship bottom maternity session, every outfit choice worked perfectly with the environment.
Even though the weather challenged us, this gallery turned out stunning. The movement, emotion, and connection made every image feel authentic. Most importantly, Kayla now has memories from this special season forever.
If you are considering a ship bottom maternity session, do not fear windy weather. Sometimes those unpredictable evenings create the most unforgettable images.
