There is something so fun about highland cow family photos. They feel playful, cozy, and completely different from a traditional session. Recently, I hosted a mini session marathon at Straight Shot Farms in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. Although only two families booked, the sessions themselves turned out absolutely adorable.
Honestly, I was surprised these sessions did not fill quickly. However, sometimes mini sessions are unpredictable. Even so, the families who came had such an amazing experience. The highland cows were incredibly calm, curious, and friendly throughout the evening. Meanwhile, the farm itself was beautiful, clean, and well maintained.
Straight Shot Farms was the perfect location for these sessions. The soft fields, warm sunset light, and fuzzy cows created such a dreamy backdrop. Additionally, the owner was wonderful to work with and made everyone feel welcome. Because of that, the entire experience felt relaxed from start to finish.
These highland cow family photos felt natural and full of personality. Instead of stiff posing, we focused on interaction and genuine moments. The cows helped make that easy because they constantly wandered over to investigate the families.
One little girl sat in a rocking chair while a fluffy cow peeked behind her shoulder. Meanwhile, another child carefully petted a calf while smiling proudly. Those moments could never be recreated in a studio. Therefore, every image felt unique and authentic.
I also loved how neutral and earthy everything looked together. The warm cow tones paired perfectly with soft clothing colors. As a result, the galleries felt timeless while still being playful.
The sibling moments especially melted my heart. One older brother held his baby sister while the cow grazed nearby. Another family walked hand in hand while the calf wandered behind them. Because the environment felt relaxed, the children could simply be themselves.
Most mini sessions happen in parks, fields, or on the beach. However, these highland cow family photos offered something completely different. Families were not only taking pictures. Instead, they were creating memories around animals their children absolutely adored.
The cows were surprisingly gentle and social during every session. They walked right up to the kids and calmly explored the setup. Consequently, the reactions from the children were priceless. Some laughed nonstop, while others stared in complete amazement.
Even though bookings were lower than expected, I still feel these sessions were worth hosting. Sometimes smaller session days allow for a more personal experience. Additionally, it gave families extra time to interact naturally with the animals.
I would absolutely love to host another round of highland cow family photos in the future. Hopefully, more families discover how fun these sessions truly are. If enough interest builds, I will definitely plan another mini session date.
For now, families can join my waitlist for future highland cow family photos sessions. That way, they will hear about the next event before booking opens publicly. Honestly, after seeing these images, I already cannot wait to do them again.
